EXAA - The Climate Exchange

EXAA - The Climate Exchange

EXAA has enlarged its portfolio by one segment, namely, a segment for trading in CO2 emissions certificates. The basis for emissions trading is the Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol was signed in 1997 by 39 states and entered into force on 16 February 2005 – ultimately with the ratification by Russia.  Any company that wants to buy or sell certificates needs an account with a national emissions registry. As soon as these conditions are met and the company becomes a member of the EXAA CO2 market, it may take part in trading.

Easy and secure access to the market for everyone

Easy and secure access to the market for everyone

Not only the energy sector, but also industrial companies need trading instruments according to EU Directive 2003/87/EC in order to optimally meet the requirements. EXAA’s concept gives companies, which up to now have not been familiar with exchange trading, easy and highly reliable access to a market with attractive terms.

Weekly spot auctions

Weekly spot auctions

As of the allocation in all European registries is done, the auction of the second trading phase 2008-2012 takes place every weekday (mo-fry) at 14.00 p.m. By then we trade CO2 certificates at a weekly auction held every Tuesday at 14:00 hrs. Two market makers ensure that liquidity is sufficient and fair market prices are determined. As central counterparty, EXAA guarantees the fulfillment of all open positions (the central counterparty acts as the contractual partner for the selling and buying of certificates, and assumes the financial default risk and guarantees the anonymity of the trades).
